Here's a sweet little story just in time for Christmas. My father-in-law is from Austria and when he was in town recently, he told us about what it was like growing up there during Christmastime. Christmas in Austria sounds almost magical except for one thing. You have to watch out for this guy:
He's kind of like Santa's bff. As a kid, you would see Santa and Krampus wandering around town making sure that all of the kids were keeping themselves in line. If you were good, you could tell Santa what you wanted for Christmas. But if you were bad, Krampus would (are you ready?) beat you with a switch. For real. So again, take a look at that guy above and imagine that it's beautiful Christmastime in Austria and then you turn a corner and next thing you know, your parents have sold you out to Krampus and you have been thrown over his knee and are getting a beat down.
This is the kind of shit that would make me behave even in July when Christmas is the furthest thing from my mind. Apparently there's even a Krampus day where the villagers dress up as this terrifying guy and parade through town. Here's a video so you can learn a little more about him and increase the chances of him haunting your dreams tonight:
Turns out you can even bring the magic home with you with your very own Krampus doll!
